Out-Of-Area-Registration
Register with Shipston Medical Centre as a new patient if you live outside of our practice boundry
Live outside our practice area? You may still be able to register with us.
At Shipston Medical Centre, we welcome applications from patients who live outside our usual practice boundary where registering with us is clinically appropriate and practical.
This may be particularly convenient if you work in or regularly travel to the Shipston area, have family locally, or simply feel that Shipston Medical Centre would better suit your needs.
How does out of area registration work?
If you live outside our normal practice area, you can apply to register with us as an out of area patient.
You will receive the same range of NHS GP services from Shipston Medical Centre as our other registered patients when attending the practice. However, out of area registration usually means that we are not responsible for providing home visits at your home address.
If you become too unwell to travel to the surgery and require urgent care at home, you may need to access an NHS service closer to where you live, for example through NHS 111.
Living outside our area can also affect access to some community services, such as community nursing, physiotherapy or maternity services, as these are often organised according to where you live rather than which GP practice you are registered with.
Is out of area registration suitable for everyone?
Not always. We consider each application individually.
We may recommend that you register with a GP practice closer to home if, for example, your health or care needs mean that you are likely to require home visits or frequent locally delivered community services, or if travelling to Shipston Medical Centre would not be practical.
If your circumstances or healthcare needs change after registration, we may discuss with you whether remaining registered as an out of area patient continues to be the most appropriate arrangement.
